Ryan Greenspan teaches us about the importance of keeping your body alive especially when you are alone on an island!
This drill will perfect your mid game and is one of the best ways to practice a field. So many teams focus on breakouts but often times don’t know what to do when a few bodies are lost. The mid-game is so hard to master, this is a drill Dynasty still runs when preparing for events to help answer a few questions and problem solve prior to the tournament.
As Ryan states, the best way to perfect this drill is through repetition, you do it enough that is will automatically click on your mind on what decisions to make during the real games. The most challenging part is to realize when you are on an island if you look back or rethink the game – you easily can identify it.
Although the drill is a 3v3, you can be on an island down bodies in a 5v3 or 4v3. It becomes even more crucial in those scenarios to preserve your body on the island. If the island dies, the point is usually over by the team crashing down that side or from the coach throwing in the towel.
Dynasty loves this drill because it has great core concepts and also works on the actual layout at the same time.
Do not die on the island.
Identify the side of the field where you can push.
6 players (3v3)
Paintball (mid game) – 2 pods and a hopper
Full field (better an upcoming layout)
