Too many times I’ve seen players get into the snake and crawl down slower than a snail because they do not want to get shot in the pack yet they crawl sooooo slow that they missed their window to shoot 2-3 guys. I’ll show you one of the best ways for snake crawling and a great exercise to help you on the paintball field.
First off, do not crawl on your knees; you need to be pushing off with your feet. You want to keep your hips on the ground with your inside leg fully extended and your outside leg doing all the work. So your outside leg will be bent as you are pushing off with your foot into the ground. Arms stay stationary as they drag across the floor as well. Here is a clip of Demetrius from X-Factor crawling down the snake to give you an idea. He is a little higher than I would recommend because he didn’t have more than one gun shooting at him. I would prefer you to keep your hips to the ground. He also is using his inside leg to push off a little but his primary power is coming from the outside leg.
Now here is the exercise you can perform at the gym to work on your speed down the snake. Perform this on a leg press machine. All the power is coming from your glutes and quads. Notice your outside leg is rotated externally, so you should also do so in the exercise as well. Perform single leg at a time. I filmed the same exercise from 2 different angles so you can better view it. Make sure the toes are rotated outward. You do not need much weight for this.
5 sets 15-20 reps each leg
Wouldn't it be a good idea to create a course?
